ARCEDI had developed a non-invasive prenatal diagnostics process based on analysis of cell-free fetal DNA in maternal blood.
The existing laboratory workflow involved more than 40 manual process steps. ARCEDI needed to understand how the process could be automated to support higher sample volumes while reducing manual handling and the associated risk of process errors.
DIS/CREADIS was engaged to map the existing workflow and develop a concept for a future automated sample-processing system.

The proposed system architecture incorporated two robots and was designed around automated handling of maternal plasma, serum and whole-blood samples.
The concept defined how the individual laboratory operations could be brought together into an automated process and how the proposed equipment could support higher sample volumes.
The project ended at concept stage. No production machine was built or commissioned as part of this project.
