DETAILED CASE

How the equipment was engineered.

Production context, equipment design, scope of delivery and verified customer value.

01 / Customer challenge

The customer produces custom membrane sails, with each product defined by an individual geometry and production file.

The production equipment therefore had to accommodate unique sail layouts rather than a fixed repeatable format.

DIS Systems was asked to develop the next generation of the customer’s gantry-based production equipment, building on the existing manufacturing concept while improving machine capability, production precision and operator safety.

02 / Engineered solution

DIS Systems developed and delivered successive generations of large-format gantry equipment for membrane sail production.

The system includes a stringer head for laying flat glass- or carbon-fibre stringers according to the individual sail design.

A separate gantry incorporates infrared heating for lamination and glue curing.

Machine-control software translates the custom sail-layout file from the customer’s specialist design software into the production sequence. An integrated plotting function marks features such as cutting lines and rigging-eyelet positions directly from the digital product definition.

The delivery included complete mechanical, electrical and automation engineering, production, assembly, functional testing, FAT, installation, commissioning, SAT and ongoing service.
