Replace manual handling of heavy coils up to 2,000 kg while improving safety and accommodating different coil sizes, capacity needs and packing patterns within limited space.
A semi automatic end-of-line system integrating heavy-coil handling, plastic-foil packing, commercially verified weighing, labelling and buffer capacity directly with the existing extrusion line.
Safer single-operator handling, greater packing flexibility and quality, plus buffer capacity that helps maintain continuous upstream extrusion production.
Production context, equipment design, scope of delivery and verified customer value.
SKY-LIGHT needed a new end-of-line solution for heavy foil coils produced on its latest extrusion plant. The existing process relied on manual handling of coils weighing up to 2,000 kg, creating significant operator health and safety risk.
The challenge went beyond replacing manual handling. The new equipment also had to provide the required flexibility in capacity, coil sizes and packing patterns, while fitting within a limited available footprint and supporting reliable production flow from the extrusion line.
The project began with a two-stage pre-project covering initial concept ideation, requirements development and concept development. This created a defined technical basis before the main delivery project.
DIS Systems then developed a semi automatic end-of-line system in close collaboration with SKY-LIGHT, including input from operators. Operator safety and ergonomics were central design criteria throughout the solution.
The equipment was engineered to interface directly with the existing extrusion line and combine heavy-coil handling with plastic-foil packing, commercially verified weighing and labelling of every coil. Buffer capacity was incorporated to help maintain continuous operation of the upstream extrusion process.
The solution was highly customized to the production task, while intentionally using simple, well-known technology where possible. The delivery included mechanical and structural engineering, electrical design, PLC/HMI automation, machine safety and CE, production, in-house FAT, commissioning, operator training and SAT.
